The Great
Smoky Mountains National Park is considered one of the nation's greatest
natural treasures, and Gatlinburg has become one of the resort
centers of choice for visitors who wish to take advantage of the park. The
natural beauty of Gatlinburg and the many entertainment attractions have made
Gatlinburg a hot spot for visitors.
A year round vacation destination,
Gatlinburg's
seasonal events include ski slopes, special events at the Smoky Mountains
National Park, nearby theme parks as well as a host of entertainment venues. Some
of the more popular events in the area are Winterfest and Gatlinburg's Craftsmen's
Fair, which is one of the Southeast's most popular events. The Smoky Mountains
are a must see in early October. The Fall is a very popular time to vacation.
Plan on making hotel
reservations several weeks in advance.
Gatlinburg offers numerous
attractions from Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies to the slopes of Ober
Gatlinburg where there is winter skiing as well as a summer Amusement Park with
water rides and the Alpine Slide. Fun-filled family attractions in Gatlinburg
include the Earthquake - The Ride, Guinness
World of Records Museum, Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum and Ripley's
Haunted Adventure. Gatlinburg is also home to the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park Sugarlands Visitor Center, Christus Gardens and the Sweet Fanny Adams
Theater & Music Hall as well as numerous arts and crafts venues.
There must be something about the soft misty views of the Smokies... Or maybe
it's something in the fresh mountain air that stirs the imagination toward romance.
Whatever the reason, Smoky
Mountain weddings are a common site in the Gatlinburg area. In fact, Sevier
County, home to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, hosts over 25,000 weddings a
year, which makes it one of the most popular destinations for weddings east of
the Mississippi!
With vistas of the Great Smokies, golf
courses are a natural addition to the wonders of Gatlinburg. There is
the breathtaking Bent Creek Golf Resort and the Gatlinburg Municipal Golf Course,
situated halfway between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Other courses within the
immediate area include the Eagles Landing Golf Course and River's Island Golf
Club in Sevierville, Dandridge Golf & Country Club in Dandridge and Laurel
Valley Golf Course in nearby Townsend.
